Announcing Request for Proposals for Specialty Crop Block Grants 2012

The Specialty Crop Block Grant Program funds projects that soley enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops.

The Virgin Islands Department of Agriculture(VIDA) is taking proposals for Specialty Crop Block Grant Fiscal Year 2012.  Specialty Crop Block Grant funding is competitively awarded by USDA to States and Terriories which design their own (local) programs within USDA parameters.

Specialty Crops are defined by the USDA as fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture, and nursery crops

The application funding process is as follows:

  • Sub grant applicants submit proposal to VIDA - deadline June 15th, 2012
  • Proposals reviewed by VIDA 
  • Selected proposals included in VIDA application
  • USDA notifies VIDA of funding status

VIDA is soliciting proposals to address one of two goals:

  1. Establishment of Fruit Orchard
  2. Urban Agriculture Project / Community Garden
